Mentor College

Founded in 1982, Mentor College educates children from junior kindergarten through to the university entrance level. Children at Mentor College are grouped by age and experience in three levels of study: primary, intermediate, and high school. These groupings follow the curriculum set out by the Ontario Ministry of Education for all schools in the province. The teaching staff is made up of experienced educators who have been chosen for their knowledge, classroom experience, and innate teaching skills. Mentor College seeks those who have a teaching degree, subject speciality, and a warm and sensitive attitude towards children. This combination of caring and teaching ability helps students reach their full potential and find personal satisfaction in achievement.

International Programme (Grades 9–12)

International students at the secondary level are welcomed into Mentor College into one of two programmes: the International Programme (with ESL support) or the mainstream College Programme (fully integrated). ESL students at the elementary level (when deemed suitable candidates) may be suited for our TEAM School programme.

The Mentor College HS International Programme is designed to improve the language proficiency level of students in Grades 9 to 12 from non-English-speaking countries. Emphasis is placed on providing a safe and positive learning environment in which students are encouraged to explore the features of their new language.

Our students come from such countries as Korea, Brazil, China, Germany, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Spain, Vietnam, and Taiwan. All students write an English proficiency test, the results of which (along with previous academic records) help to determine their placement in the programme. Placement in the appropriate English level will ensure that they are able to function effectively in English and develop their self-confidence.

Individual attention is given to each student and classes are kept small to facilitate individual learning. The goal of the programme is to ensure a high level of proficiency in all four skill areas: speaking, listening, reading, and writing.

Grades 9 & 10

From an academic standpoint, the integration begins in Grade 9 when students are enrolled in mathematics, science, geography or history, physical education, and their elective courses. Most importantly, students will be enrolled in 2 English courses for the entire year.

Participation in extracurricular activities (various sports teams or clubs) fosters personal growth and offers opportunities for language- learning outside the classroom. Furthermore, it provides students with valuable teamwork skills and life lessons and allows the student to form new friendships in the Canadian community.

Grades 11 & 12

In the senior grades, students who require English support or who require additional Grade 9 or 10 ESL classes are considered part of the International Programme. If the school determines that the student’s language proficiency is at grade level, the student may be offered admission to the mainstream College programme.

Newton’s Grove School

Newton’s Grove has been setting young people up for success—in the classroom, and in life—for over forty years.

Founded in 1977, Newton’s Grove was the first private school in Mississauga, known then as Mississauga Private School. In the years since, NGS established a reputation for exceptional teaching, outstanding university placement, and a progressive inquiry-based approach to learning that produces the highest results across academics, athletics, and the arts.

The new school has been designed to support our deep-rooted commitment to STEAM. It features fully-equipped science and computer labs, visual and dramatic arts rooms, a Learning Commons, and a music room and studio.

Our inquiry-based curriculum encourages students to think independently, to ask questions, and to become problem solvers. By setting high standards and maintaining small classes, we can individualize our approach and provide the enrichment and support students need. By melding traditional expectations of regular homework and disciplined studies with the latest research, we offer dynamic and engaging lessons that prepare our students for future success. Our emphasis on all these aspects of learning allow our programs to meet and exceed the Ministry of Education standards.
